The Search

“It´s so great to watch a sunset
in the southern hemisphere!”
Eyes full of adoration
he told me what brought him here
And what keeps him travelling on,
“Wherever I am there´s my song.”

We drank whisky from the bottle. He said, “Look at all the lines in my face!
Each one tells you a story of a different time
And a different place.
Wherever I am there´s my song.”

Then the evening stars came out and we saw the Southern Cross.
He said, “It´s a thing so pure, it makes you forget about
All earthly pain and loss.
Wherever I am there´s my song.”

“From the first day I left my hometown
I walked off young and bold, nothing would bring me down.
And the first time that I crossed the Irish Sea
I felt the whole wide world was waiting just for me.”

“Saw the Northern Light on the Greenland shore
Where the ice is thick and the cold winds blow.
Saw the Himalaya rising, walked on sacred ground,
Dipped my face into the holy Ganges - I could hear a sound,

Ssssh! Can you hear my song?
Ssssh!”

“Lonesome princess on an island, lonesome king on a mountain top,
Always tried to leave you simling, and the search will never, never stop,
And the search will never, never stop.”

“Saw Polynesian fishing girls - they had black almond eyes,
Drank with Chinese ambassadors and told them BIG BIG lies,
Joined the Foreign Legion, beaten to the desert ground,
Even in my darkest hour I could hear a sound -

Ssssh! Can you hear my song?
Ssssh!”

“Lonesome princess on an island, lonesome king on a mountain top,
Always tried to leave you simling, and the search will never stop,
And the search will never, never stop,
And the search will never, never stop,
And the search will never, never stop.”
